Many of my dedicated readers are wondering about the pigeon/parrot picture that was located to the left of my last blog... And I should have reported about that eventful beach walk during the San Diego post!
I am definitely my Fathers daughter cause right when I saw that thing perched on the women's shoulder with a trail of poop down the back of her vest I knew it was an AFRICAN GREY! I stunned my friends and husband with my knowledge! But any who... This lady was just walking down the beach with it... It would fly off her shoulder frequently and then return back to her, where she would give it a treat and make this bell sound to notify to the bird that it did the "right thing"! So I approached the lady casually and asked "if it was an African grey?" She said Yeah! I then in return began making small talk with her and asking her if she was out training it on the beach or was she just letting it get some exercise. She said it was already trained and just was giving it some good exercise... I later found out that thing was not trained.... As the small talk came to an end I asked if I could hold it, she said of course, so I held out my arm in perch position and the thing came to me!Cool! As the bird sat perched on my arm I talked to it and made cools noises with my mouth, noises i recalled dad making to Lori, just trying to make the thing comfortable, building rapport if you will... I then brought the bird closer feeling comfortable with the relationship and as I did so he started to put his little beak on my cheek. I thought aw he likes me, he's nestling then the next thing I knew the bird BIT my freaking CHEEK! It latched on and yes I did have a mark from it which was recorded on my friends camera! I screamed that sucker hurt me and made a little beak dent in my cheek! I expected an apology or at least a reaction from the bird owner but instead she called the bird back to her and gave it a treat as well as the ring of the bell... Retched women!! And then through out our walk the bird would continually fly and land on one of us, as if he was harassing us! The other picture that you see of the boys walking on the beach is also with the bird, he landed on our friend Eric as well but he didn't stick up his arm to allow the bird to perch he was just chatten with dan! Let me just tell you that thing was not trained... the only reason he kept returning to the women was clearly for food! But hey I looked at it as an event to blog about!

I feel your pain at the African Grey attack. As you may recall, I still bear the scars from a fateful Christmas morning rendezvous with Lori . . . .
It sounds like some of the love for me from the animal world is rubbing off on little sis.
Great story! No, definitely not trained, I agree. I can't believe she didn't apologize. I'm not one to laugh out loud at the T.V. or computer, but you had me going. I sure miss having you around to keep me laughing. You're awesome! I forget all the animal encounters our family has had. Jeremy has had a few, Dana and Lori, Wendy and the monkeys. I dropped a baby hamster after it bit me. Mom's been pooped on by birds numerous times. Nate might have been pooped on by a crow. Either him or Nate Phillips. We'll have to recap some of those this summer. I forget the details.
Wow... great pictures. Where'd you get these? They look identical to some I've seen before!
Lori didn't like me either. You are a brave girl! Love you!
